Green Shirt Day - April 7th , 2022

April 7 is Green Shirt Day, a day not only dedicated to organ and tissue donation awareness, but also in memory of Logan Boulet, one of the hockey players who was tragically killed in the Humboldt Broncos bus crash a few of years ago. Not only was he able to donate his organs and save 6 lives, but that act alone started an incredible event where thousands of Canadians signed up to become organ and tissue donors. This is now known as the Logan Boulet Effect.

You can support this very important cause by simply wearing the colour GREEN on April 7th.

In honour of this very special day, the City of Ottawa Heritage Building and the OTTAWA sign located in the Byward Market will both be illuminated in GREEN. Please be sure to check those out and don't forget to send us your photos.

Then after 14yrs after losing her first kidney to rejection, she received her second gift of life when a courageous, selfless family in their greatest time of grief decided to donate their loved ones organs. This amazing gift allowed Emily to get her G1 drivers license. "On December 10th, 2020 my husband gave me the gift of life by donating one of his kidneys to me.

Because of his selfless gift, at 43 years old I applied and got accepted to Queen's University into the Psychology department.
It may take 10 years, but the 20 year long dream of getting my Doctorate in Psychology is now my future!

After speaking to many transplant recipients at the Ottawa Hospital while waiting in the transplant lab for bloodwork, I learned how fortunate I was to have a pre-emptive transplant. I never did dialysis, which is what most patients say was the worst part of end-stage kidney failure, and if they could go back and have the opportunity to have a pre-emptive living donor transplant, they would jump at the chance.

I am truly aware how incredibly lucky I am to have my journey go so smoothly.
I am very interested in promoting the living donor program at the Ottawa Hospital; the transplant organizers, doctors, surgeons, nurses, and all other staff involved in this program are the best of the best and they truly care about each of their patients." - Jaime
